Alonso Sets Pace Opening Session at Marina Bay
Marina Bay Street Circuit
3-5 October includes the main event starting at 13:00 BST on Sunday.
Real-time updates provided on digital platforms and BBC Sport.
Opening Round Highlights
Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso set the pace beating Monegasque driver and Red Bull's Max Verstappen in first practice at the Marina Bay race.
McLaren's title rivals Oscar Piastri and British talent concluded the practice in fifth and sixth.
The young Australian was over two tenths faster than the Briton.
The experienced Spaniard was a slim margin ahead of Leclerc and a clear gap quicker than Verstappen.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton was just outside the top three.
Weekend Outlook
Few anticipate that the Silverstone-based team will be in the mix for pole position.
Nonetheless, the squad are hopeful of a better weekend on a technical venue that is more suited to their car, which performs better when significant amounts of downforce are called for.
Double world title winner Alonso is also famous as a street circuit master, and typically performs well on the Singapore circuit.
Yet he was likely running reduced weight or a more aggressive setting than his competitors, or both, to achieve that pace.
Session Details
His team-mate Canadian racer was 1.918secs slower in P18.
Stroll had difficulties with his driving position early in the session and was also running new components.
The first session in Singapore is not representative of race pace for qualifying and race as it is conducted in bright conditions in late afternoon, while the shootout and the race are run after dark.
Title Battle
Piastri is ahead of Norris by a quarter-century with the final stretch left entering the Grand Prix in Singapore.
The Woking-based team are poised to clinch the constructors' championship on the weekend.
Single possibility they can fail to secure it in Singapore is if Mercedes surpass them by thirty-one or Ferrari achieve that by thirty-five.
Red Bull Update
The energy drink brand's team are hopeful of a strong result after Max's wins in Monza and Baku leading into this weekend.
They were relieved when drizzle falling prior to running cleared by the moment the machines went out on a surface that had remained dry.
Senior figure Red Bull's advisor stated before the session that they wanted a clear session to begin properly on understanding their car configuration for the event.
