Roughly 50 cars have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Automobiles, exterior walls and mailboxes were vandalized, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they reported in a release.
Law enforcement state they were alerted during the night on Wednesday night, when a man observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored substance.
The liquid had been drawn in the form of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Officers then located numerous other marked cars and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under legislation outlawing the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials state preliminary tests suggest the fluid was likely blood from a person.
"There is still no indication as to where it came from; investigators are presently not aware of any injuries in relation with the event," they stated.
Local authorities announced they were trying "to solve the mystery" and have appealed to the community for details.
A high-ranking official commented the incident rendered him stunned and required to be solved promptly.
"This event affects the center of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the far-right terrorist attack half a decade ago," he stated on social media, referring to the death of nine victims by a assailant aiming at individuals of migrant background in February 2020.
