New England Match Best Victory Run Since Tom Brady Years with Triumph Over Jets
First-year player Henderson has tallied five TDs in the present year
The New England Patriots matched their longest winning run since the Brady era as they defeated AFC East opponents the Jets by 13 points in professional football
Rookie Henderson led the way with three touchdowns as the New England squad notched an eighth straight win for the first time since star signal-caller Tom Brady's last year with the franchise in 2019
Quarterback Maye threw for 281 passing yards and a TD, connecting on 25 of 34 passes
Victory increases the New England's lead at the summit of the division as they advanced to nine wins and two defeats, with the Jets at the foot after slipping to two wins and eight losses
The Jets had taken the lead at Foxborough with quarterback Fields running in a short rushing score to finish the New York's first possession
But the home team fought back in the second quarter as the rookie scored two seven-yard touchdowns before the running back caught a pass from Drake Maye at the back of the end zone in the middle of the third period to make it 21-7
"That was a crucial moment for him stepping up, and it's been fantastic for him to keep earning playing time," Maye said of Henderson. "He desires to be outstanding."
Fields found Metchie toward the end of the third period to reduce the lead for the visitors but Andy Borregales converted a two field goals in the fourth quarter as the Patriots sealed the win
