The iconic performer Pays Heartfelt Homage to Cinema Icon: ‘Among the Greatest Performers Of All Time’

Barbra Streisand warmly remembered Robert Redford, describing him as “among the most gifted performers in history.”

A Heartfelt Homage

The acclaimed artist issued a heartfelt message following the loss of Redford in the beloved movie the 1973 hit. His life ended surrounded by loved ones in the mountains of Utah.

On Instagram, Streisand reflected warmly on the moments they spent filming the 1973 hit.

“Throughout production of our project was exciting, deeply emotional and utterly joyful,” she wrote. “Our personalities contrasted greatly: he was from the world of horses; I was allergic to them! Nevertheless, we kept trying to learn more about each other, similar to the characters in the movie. Bob was charismatic, brilliant, deeply passionate, constantly engaging—and an unparalleled talent. Our final meeting, when he came to lunch, we discussed art and decided to exchange our first drawings. He was truly unique and I’m so grateful for having the chance to collaborate alongside him.”

A Timeless Influence

The film The Way We Were achieved both praise and popularity along with its memorable soundtrack rising to become a popular success and receiving an Oscar nomination.

Streisand’s tribute joins a long list across the entertainment world and past it after Redford’s death. Another legendary performer, who shared the screen with him on multiple projects, stated, “We have lost a titan. Rest in peace dear friend.”

Jane Fonda, who appeared with Redford in multiple films including Barefoot in the Park, shared her thoughts: “The news shook me this morning about his passing. Tears won’t cease. He meant a lot to me and was a beautiful person through and through. He advocated for an America we have to keep fighting for.”

A Supporter of Visionaries

An influential public personality released a photograph alongside the actor, stating: “He supported meaningful causes such as ecological conservation and access to the arts while opening doors for new generations of creators and advocates. An undeniable legend.”

A talented performer, known for her role in The Horse Whisperer, his dual-role project, looked back on the experience. “He exhibited kindness, warmth, and patience,” she expressed. “Bob taught me the possibilities of the craft, and it was from his generosity and guidance that I felt encouraged to follow the opportunities of the art. That very kindness and love of the art resulted in the renowned festival, an environment in which film-makers learn from one another, fuel creativity, and recognize mutual giftedness. My thanks to you, Bob for your belief in me and for your grace and guidance.”

He was also described by an influential filmmaker as one of the “innovative force”.

An Enduring Mark

He was celebrated for his many films as an actor, including All The President’s Men, but also played a key role through his founding of the festival, and widely regarded as a trailblazer of US independent cinema.

“It is with great sorrow following the death of the visionary behind our institution,” an official message expressed. “Bob’s vision for a community and an outlet for independent voices started a revolution which, after forty years, has motivated countless individuals of artists and redefined the art of movie-making globally.”
